Cuff Bracelet
1970 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
The Greek jeweller Ilias Lalaounis (1920-2013) explored many sources of inspiration during his career, but is particularly known for his collections based on ancient gold jewellery from Greece's distant past. For his Byzantine Collection of 1970 he turned to a more recent period in Greece's history. Lalaounis's designs draw on Byzantine decorative motifs and architectural detailing, adapting them to fit with contemporary fashion - or as he has written, the pieces are his statement on 'Byzantium as a modern Greek experience'.
