Production | The Abuja Pottery, Northern Nigeria, was established as a training centre by Michael Cardew in 1951. The pottery became a productive business in its own right and is now wholly Nigerian-run. This teapot, by an unknown potter, dates from about 1968-1972 when the donor was living in Nigeria. It is a classic Cardew shape and demonstrates his continuing influence. Made after Cardew's departure from Abuja, this "flattened-spherical shape" teapot follows his design. See Cardew (1969), p117. |
