This is a bronze medal made in the 15th century in Italy. The obverse of this medal shows Dante Alighieri and the inscription 'DANTHES FLORENTINUS', while the reverse shows Dante and the mount of Purgatory.
Durante degli Alighieri, called Dante (c. 1265–1321), was an Italian poet of the Middle Ages. His 'Divine Comedy', is widely considered the greatest literary work composed in the Italian language and a masterpiece of world literature. Dante is considered among the greatest writers to have lived. Purgatory is the second part of Dante's 'Divine Comedy'.
