This poster is one of a group of three in the museum (E.1088-1099-1993) issued by SWAPO ( The South West Africa Peoples Organisation) in 1977, calling for Namibian Independence. The texts on this page of newsprint relate a variety of incidents concerning the South African Occupation of Namibia condemned as illegal by the United Nations. The country eventually gained independence, under the leadership of Sam Nujoma, in 1990.
The photographer, George Hallett, came to Europe in 1970 where he met up with other South African exiles, such as Gavin Jantjes, who made many posters and screenprints protesting the horrors of Apartheid and colonial rule.

Poster in the form of the front page of a newspaper 'The Namibian Peoples' News' . The text is in four languages: French, English, Portuguese and Arabic. There are also three photographic images between the texts: a political rally, a workers' strike and marching freedom fighters. A leading headline of the newspaper is 'Mobilizing for Liberation'
Beneath the newspage is a calendar for the months of March and April 1977.
