This cigarette case was bought from Boucheron, London in May 1963 for £300 by Bettine, Lady Abingdon .In terms of luxury items the cigarette case and the vanity case became for some the successors of the gold box. In the later decades of the 20th century, the cigarette case was challenged by the damage to health caused by smoking.
