Bruxelles

Fashion Design
1910 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Design for orange evening dress with elaborate embroidery in the shape of acanthus scrolls. This high-waisted dress may have been inspired by the costumes of the fashionable Ballets Russes.

Compared to earlier Paquin creations, this design shows a straighter and slimmer silhouette. The new high-waisted and shorter-skirted designs introduced by Paul Poiret were a main cause for this change. During their life time Poiret and Paquin remained fierce competitors.
