This footed bowl or vase with foliate motifs is made by an unknown artist after an original attributed to the Alberghetti Foundry (1500-50).
The present object was probably executed in Paris around 1800 to 1850.
The nature of the casting of the bowl together with the metal analysis, confirm its status as an after-cast of the Louvre original.

Brief description | Bowl, globular form, decorated with bands of arabesque ornament in relief. Italy, 16th century |
Physical description | The bowl is decorated around with a foliage motif, moulding and acanthus. On the shoulder of the bowl a foliate arcaded relief, egg and dart, and bead. On the upper part of the body, below a moulding, a frieze of paired cornucopiae flanking winged vases from which emerge caducei, linked by foliate scrolls to the foliage motifs with which they alternate. On the lower part of the body, a row of bead, and a moulding from which are suspended foliate and fruit pendants and swags, with cherub heads above. Below (emanating from the base of the bowl) is acanthus, alternating with and overlapping stiff leaf, from which flowers emerge. On the foot , downward facing stiff leaf. Around the rim of the foot, beneath an intended moulding, is a scrolled foliate pattern with alternating motifs of a chalice with an emerging crucifix and vases flanked by half-figures, bordered by rope decoration. |
