To test forms, sizes, materials and details of construction, today's bag designers and manufacturers rely on three-dimensional prototypes. These are usually constructed from paper or Salpa, a flexible material made from bonded leather scraps. Salpa behaves similarly to leather but, being cheaper, allows designers to inexpensively experiment with new shapes and techniques. Several prototypes are often created and marked-up with adjustments.
