Place of origin |
In 2016, after three years of research, the Glastonbury Festival launched a sustainable recycled stainless steel pint cup for use on the Festival site at Worthy Farm. It was part of a plan to reduce the amount of waste, particularly plastic beer cups, and to support British industry. The cups, described as food grade 80% recycled steel, were made by APS Metal Pressings Ltd in Birmingham, using Sheffield stainless steel. The environmental message, ‘LOVE THE FARM, LEAVE NO TRACE’, was stamped on the base of each cup. Sheepskin cup holders were provided by a local firm, Owen Barry, which produced sheepskin and leather products at its workshop in the nearly village of Street.
Festival-goers could purchase a cup for £5.00 and use it at any of ten bars across the Glastonbury site. Used cups could be swapped for clean ones, returned for a full refund, or retained as a souvenir.
