Historical context
The view is from the eastern gorge, with the walls on the hill to the left, and the Yeni Cuma Camii above the town to the right. See Vigne, Travels in Kashmir..., 1842, Vol.1, pp.5-7.
Vigne briefly described his journey in an article in The Journal of the Royal Geographical Society of London, Vol.9, 1839, pp.512-6: see Searight Archive; and more fully in Travels in Kashmir..., 1842, Vol.1, pp.5-21.
