Man’s coat of pale beige silk taffeta, lined with ivory silk twill, the back with bleached linen. It has a 1⅜-inch (3.4 cm) standing collar, a 5¼-inch (13.2 cm) turn-down collar, pointed at the back, and curving, 2-piece sleeves ending in 3¾-inch (9.4 cm) deep cuffs. The fronts curve toward the back; each has a pocket flap, and 3¾-inch (9.4 cm) deep pleats at the side back.There is a pocket in the lining of each front. There are 2 large self-covered buttons on the right side with 2 corresponding worked buttonholes on the left. There is a button at of each set of pleats.
The machine lace ruffles at the wrist were added for fancy dress in the late 19th century.
