Historical context
Seven views of Constantinople by the same hand, watercolour, on paper watermarked J WHATMAN TURKEY MILL 1834, inscribed on the back, 25.5 x 45 cm., were sold Sotheby's 16.10.81 (57). Giuseppe's sisters, Margerita and Francesca, visited him in Constantinople, 1836-7, and Margerita returned there, 1838-41 (see Cutajar, 1987). There is no record of any drawings by either sister, but it is not impossible that SD.963-SD.965 are by one of them. See also SD.1243:1-7
