Object history
Notes from R.P. 59/2924
Burr walnut veneer bureau cabinet c.1720 with mirror doors, bequest of Miss Joyce Martin, St Swithins, 16 Manor Road, Sutton, Surrey

15/9/59 minute to Mr Molesworth
"Miss Joyce Martin showed me a family pedigree including particulars of her great-grandfather, John Martin (b.1791, d.1855), Librarian to the Duke of Northumberland and to the Duke of Bedford; Edward Bailey of Mount Street, Upholsterer; George Martin, glazier (b.1734, d.1804); and to tradesmen and others of the Nevison Bowerman Dupple Walley Bosworth and Basillio families. "In the circumstances…… which Miss Martin described to me, it appears more likely that this piece of furniture is of family origin than a donation from the Dukes of Northumberland and Bedford".

Note
The writer does not explain what are the circumstances which lead him to his conclusion re. provenance.
