Photographic Print

1880-1907 (Made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Possibly a photographic print hand-coloured with watercolour. This object is one of five kept loose in a drawer when the group was housed at the Courtauld Institute of Art. It is unclear which frame the objects were originally in and it has not been possible yet to identify the works in the exhibition booklet. this could be a copy of an early miniagture by John Hoskins (it has the red curtain background used by Nicholas Hilliard and Isaac Oliver). There is a Hoskins noted in the exhibition catalogue booklet for a frame that no longer exists, Frame T. "Hoskins –Dr Sandler". It is unlikely to be "Hoskins ‘A young man’" as the sitter is middle-aged.
Middle aged man with a pointed beard and wearing a large white ruff, against a red curtain background.
