This object is a photographic miniature on ivory, with a photographic emulsion exposed base which has been hand coloured with watercolour. This object is a photographic print which has been hand- coloured with watercolour. It is one of 96 similar objects, most of which are facsimiles of original miniatures in various collections, both public and private. These copies were created for J J Foster to illustrate his publication of ‘Miniature Painters, British and Foreign…’ 1903. This collection of copies was exhibited in 1908 at Dickenson’s Gallery, London, which was owned by J J Foster. It was accompanied by a booklet ‘Exhibition Illustrating the Art of Miniature Painting’, 1908. Both publications are available in the National Art Library, V&A.

In the exhibition booklet this object listed on page 10 as No. 7 in Case L.
