Object history
On donating the jumper to the Museum, Charlie Porter recollected: "I wish I could say I’d worn this jumper! It’s from Craig’s third solo show, and I remember thinking at the time: I’ve just got to buy it. The season before, Craig had shown a chunky greens sweater with a ribbed circular hole at the stomach. I bought it, wore it constantly – I still do. So it seemed a natural step to buy this next holed sweater. In reality, the knit is like bandage, and it fits super tight on the body. It’s two pieces – a sweater and then a vest that goes over the top, with the holes. I wish I could say I was the human who went out wearing a tight knit with two knots like dim sum at the chest. Maybe I bought it hoping to become that person. Whatever, I’m happy I did buy it, happy that it exists in the world. It’s a sign of the perversity that runs through Craig’s work, always done with a knowing naivety" - Charlie Porter, October 2019
