Untitled set design by Richard Beer (1928-2017).
Jennifer Opie, who reproduces this design in Richard Beer: Art & Life, 2019, pp.46-47, captions it as a set design for the ballet, Napoli, 1961-2. It may well be an early working proposal but when the ballet was first performed by The Royal Ballet it was performed against pieces from Sophie Fedorovitch’s scenery for Madam Butterfly. When a new set by Beer was added to the production it was a version of the traditional view of the Bay of Naples, viewed through a lattice trellis with foliage, as reproduced in Dance and Dancers, November 1962, p.37.
