Object history
From the Museum Registers: 'Seven Fragments of tiles of buff-coloured earthenware, covered with turquoise-blue or greyish blue enamel, painted in colours and decorated with gilding. Found in the ruins of Rhages (Rhé) [Rayy], destroyed in the 12th century. Persian. Largest Fragment L.5 1/4 in. W. 4 1/4 in. Bought (Nos. 1112 to 1120, £35).
The decoration of the various pieces comprises, a man's head, a fox, hare, portions of Arabic inscriptions and arabesques. Four of the fragments are moulded in relief.'
