Acquired by the V&A from Leslie Linder (1904-1973) in 1973 as part of the Linder Bequest, a collection of ca. 2150 watercolours, drawings, literary manuscripts, correspondence, books, photographs, and other memorabilia associated with Beatrix Potter and her family.
From Linder Bequest catalogue: Wooden box with painted cut outs of the mice pasted on to the wood. Given by BP to her mother and inscribed: A merry Christmas! Dec 99
Found by BP when sorting through her mother's belongings after her death. Miss Margeret Hammond was with her at the time. BP threw it across the room to her saying 'You can have this' (LL Cat). Given to me (LL) by Miss Hammond.
