Historical context | The term 'quintal' was used at the time of production to describe flower holders of this shape with five protusions. However 'quintal' technically refers to a measurement of a hundred, therefore it appears to be a misnomer. In 18th century catalogues the design is also referred to as 'quintal flower horn' (Leeds Pottery and Castleford Pottery) or 'five-fingered flower-pot' (Whitehead Pottery). |
