Gallery label | Carroll re-wrote his first Alice story to extend its reach to nursery-age children. He used more direct language, often focusing on the images. Tenniel redrew some of the illustrations as they would be printed in colour for the first time, with Alice wearing a yellow dress. Carroll also ‘invented’ a stamp case in 1888. On one side the insert pulls out to reveal the baby turned into a pig, and on the other side, the Cheshire Cat disappears.
