Physical description | Heavyweight black wool academic gown. Worn by the theatre manager and producer, Lilian Baylis. Formal, academic style gown made from heavy black wool with full wide hanging sleeves. The gown is open at the front and has full, hanging, sleeves. It is shaped with tight pleating at the upper part of the centre back (around the yoke and just below the shoulder line). It is largely plain, with the exception of a length of twisted cord, which runs down the centre back of the rear yoke, finishing in a fabric covered button. The gown is not lined. There is a narrow hanging loop at the centre back interior and above this a label reads 'Paisley / 72-96 Jamaica Street / Glasgow C.I.' |
