Script: gothic bookhand.

Textual content:
ff. 1r-12v: Calendar, half full, in French. Major feasts in gold, ordinary feasts alternately in red and blue. The only distinctive Rouen saint in gold is Romanus, other typical Rouen saints are included in red and blue.
ff. 13r-17v: Gospel periscopes.
ff. 17v-23v: Prayers.
ff. 24r-63v: Hours of the Virgin, Use of Rouen. Only None (f. 53v) has a rubric.
ff. 64r-78v: Penitential Psalms, headed (f. 63v) with litany, followed by two collects.
ff. 79r-81v: Hours of the Cross.
ff. 82r-84v: Hours of the Holy Spirit.
ff. 84v-107v: Office of the Dead, Use of Rouen, headed (f.48r).
ff. 108r-111v: Fifteen Joys of the Virgin.
ff. 111v-113v: Seven Requests to our Lord, followed by a prayer.

Decoration:
12 rectangular miniatures in the lower margins of the calendar representing an occupation associated with each month, i.e threshing in August, sowing in September, and slaughtering pigs in December (ff. 1r, 2r, 3r, 4r, 5r, 6r, 7r, 8r, 9r, 10r, 11r, 12r). Each is accompanied by an illumination of the corresponding zodiac sign.

3 full page miniatures representing the Annunciation (with the Virgin spinning in the lower register; f. 24r), David in Penitence (with David and Goliath in the lower register; f. 64r), and Three horseman and Three Death figures (with Death brandishing a spear in the lower register; f. 84v). Each miniature is within an architectural frame and is accompanied with three lines of text.

10 half-page miniatures depicting the Four Evangelists (f. 13r), the Visitation (f. 33r), the Nativity (f. 44r), the Annunciation to the Shepherds (f. 48r), the Adoration of the Magi (f. 50v), the Presentation in the Temple (f. 53r), the Flight to Egypt (f. 55r), the Coronation of the Virgin (f. 60v), the Crucifixion (f. 79r) and the Pentecost (f. 82r). Each miniature is accompanied by three lines of text, and is framed by full ornamental borders containing plants, animals and grotesques.

Borders composed of geometrical shapes filled with blue and brushed gold acanthus and compartments of flowers berries or fruit on brushed gold grounds. The margins are populated with frequent depictions of birds and grotesques, mostly copied on the verso from the recto. The manuscript contains line-fillers and floriated initials on red, blue and gold grounds.

Binding: c.1900, Scotland created by Kerr & Richardson, Glasgow. Calf with inlaid central decorated panel of lighter calf, decorated with an acanthus motif and stippled in gold. 5 raised bands on the spine lettered HORAE/MARIAE/VIRGINIS. Inside front cover stamped with binding maker’s mark.
