COSTUME DESIGN FOR OH WHAT A LOVELY WAR
1963

Created by Joan Littlewood at Theatre Royal, Stratford East, Oh What a Lovely War satirised the First World War. Designer Una Collins dressed the cast in Pierrot costumes with military tin-hats, instead of traditional khaki costumes. Despite the theatre censorship of the era, the production was a surprise hit. It transferred to the West End and Broadway and was filmed in 1969.
