Mug of cream-coloured lead-glazed earthenware transfer-printed with black enamel. Cylindrical with a loop handle. With figures of a sailor and soldier mourning beside a monument of Lord Nelson, and with verses and other inscriptions. On the front of the monuments is a bust of Nelson inscribed 'The ... lamented LORD VISCOUNT NELSON Born Sep 29 1758, Fell in the glorious Cause of his Country in the Memorable Battle of Trafalgar 21 October 1805 Aged 47. Motto, Palmam qui meruit ferat, Translation Let him bear away the Palm who deserved it.'. Inside is an applied figure of a frog in black.
