Lead-glazed earthenware

British printed pottery was exported in vast numbers to North America. Such exports were often decorated with scenes specific to the local market . The original print source for this plate is actually English: ‘View of the Railroad from Hetton Colliery’, published in 1822, used here to represent American scenery.
