BEATLES
Designed by the EMI studio, photography by
Angus McBean (British, born 1904)
Issued by Parlophone/EMI, 1963
Colour offset lithograph
E.2101.1-1992

This was the first Beatles LP. It stayed at number one
of the charts for 33 weeks. It was also released in the
U.S.A.; it thus provides an early example of the flow
of British culture to America. Theatre photographer
McBean's arresting framing of the Beatles in the EMI
stairwell is seen again on later albums.
