Spandex is a generic term used since 1960 to describe
man-made fibres composed largely of segmented
polyurethane. It was initially used for underwear and
sports clothing but in recent years has been used for
fashion also. It is not immediately apparent that this
tailored jacket is stretchy, but its spandex component
facilitates a body-moulding fit. The textile design reflects
the 1992 vogue for snakeskin and animal prints.
