herman de vries (born 1931)
Dutch artist herman de vries is concerned about the breakdown of human relationships to nature. In 1986 he bought a small plot from an area of comercially farmed land in Eschenau and since then has worked to return it to its natural state using his expertise as a trained horticulturalist. His 1988 compendium of plant names records all those that he remembers ever consuming while damask roses are a recurring material in his installations and publications.
