For a description of the formation, in 1884-5, of the Guards Camel Regiment, see Count Gleichen, With the Camel Corps up the Nile, 1888. The tentative 1886 date is based on comparison with a similar watercolour entitled Grenadier Guards: Detachment of the Guards Camel Corps, 1886 (reproduced as a Christmas card by the Grenadier Guards in 1970: see Searight Archive). See also sketches by Count Gleichen (SD.426:1-45) and W.S. Perry (SD.772-798).
