Starry Sky Overdrive

Kimono
2018 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Kyoto-based kimono brand Modern Antenna is known for its bold, geometric, ink-jet printed designs. Run by Hirayama Yoshihide and Yamamoto Asako, they are inspired by modernist art movements and British rock music. They use their digital design skills to explore new possibilities for kimono fashion.

This kimono is a collaboration with the musician Yoshida Shonin. Illustrative, yet graphic, the design features rainclouds, thunderbolts shooting stars and mountains ranges on a graduated teal background. The title ‘Starry Sky Overdrive’ is sketched in Japanese characters and small scale shimmering gold stars are scattered all over.
