Object history | Hangings of this design were used in Fortuny's shop on the ground floor of the Palazzo Orfei as a backdrop to his pleated silk and printed gauze & velvet garments, furnishing fabrics, and lamps. A photograph of the interior can be seen in Guillermo de Osma's book Mariano Fortuny: His Life And Work (London, 1980), on page 140, and a design for a very similar (although not identical) hanging is on page 156. We do not know if this hanging is one of those that formed part of the decor of Fortuny's shop, although it is certainly the same design. |
