A small purse made from two rectangles of printed cotton, cut on the cross [bias cut] and sewn to form a square envelope with a pointed flap. Cream ground with red feathery stems forming an ogival lattice enclosing a flowering stem in blue, red and mauve. Lined with the same fabric and faced with bias-cut black, plain weave silk.

Object history
Donated to the V&A by Robert Murdoch Smith in 1883, together with a batch of sixty-four other printed cotton specimens from Isfahan, and four carpet fragments: "The [cottons] I got from the calico printers at Ispahan, most of them at least. I have a good many specimens of <i>old</i> printing."
