Sketch of a Young Child Learning to Draw
About 1808-11

Frederick and his wife Elizabeth were married about 1803, and by 1811 had five children. This drawing comes from a series of rapid sketches of the children. The little boy in baby clothes is possibly John Frederick. He stands in front of a chair, attempting to copy the landscape in the open sketchbook.
