Silk and satin theatre programmes were frequently produced in the 18th and 19th centuries to commemorate special theatrical and musical events, the less expensive ones with integral fringing made from fraying cut edges, and the more expensive with separately applied silk or metallic fringes. This beautifully printed and decorated programme was produced for a Command Performance at the Royal Opera, Covent Garden, on the 11th May 1914, in honour of the visit of the King and Queen of Denmark.

Acts from Tosca, La Bohème and Aida were on the programme, sung by Louise Edsvina, Giovanni Martinelli, Vanni Marcoux, Aristide Acheschi, Pompilio Malatesta, Dante Zucchi, Nellie Melba, Jean Aquistapace, Pompilio Malatesta, Johannes Fönss, Louise Kirby Lunn, Emmy Destinn, Johannes Sembach, and Carel van Hulst. The conductors were Giorgio Polacco, Albert Coates and Arthur Nikisch.

Cream moiré silk programme with cream silk fringe attached all round, printed in blue lettering with red, green, pink and yellow ornamental border incorporating royal crests, ribbon swags, roses, and the flags of Denmark and Great Britain. Produced for 'The State Performance in Honour of the Visit of Their Majesties the King and Queen of Denmark' featuring Acts from the operas Tosca, La Bohème and Aida, Royal Opera Covent Garden, 11th May 1914.
