Place of origin

WARP: white cotton; Z4S; 28 threads per inch (112 per dm).

WEFT: blue cotton; Z-spun, unplied, 2 parallel threads per shoot; 3 shoots afer each row of knots; 15 knots per inch (60 per dm)

PILE: wool; 9 colours: red, light red, dark yellow, yellow , dark green, green, dark blue, grey; white. There may originally have been more colours. Asymmetrical knot open to the left and tied around two warp threads.

SIDE FINISH: cut

END FINISH: lower; missing but evidence of plain weave with white and light blue weft. Upper; cut.

DESIGN:

Field: only 2" (5 cm) remaining - appears to be a series of compartments with a white ground on a dark red field.
Borders: there seem to have been seven, described from the inside:
(1) dark red ground with light red S-motifs
(2) dark yellow ground with a green meander and red flowers
(3) as (1)
(4) dark green ground with a thin angular stem bearing light coloured blossoms outlined in red over which is a tracery of dark and light red
(5) as (1)
(6) as (2)
(6) as (1)
