Place of origin

Costume worn by June Whitfield in the BBC TV Television Series Terry and June, c1980. The costume was bought, not made, and may have been modified by the BBC costume designer Andrew Rose, who designed nineteen episodes between 1979-1982.

Terry and June is a British situation comedy (sitcom) that aired on BBC TV between 1979 and 1987. It starred Terry Scott and June Whitfield and writers included John Kane and Terry Ravenscroft. Whitfield had previously starred with Scott in two television series, Scott on … (1968-1974) and Happy Ever After (1974-1978). Whilst the former series featured comedy sketches based on a chosen topic for each episode, Terry and June saw Scott and Whitfield playing eponymous characters based on those they had played in Happy Ever After. The premise of both series was one of a middle-aged couple re-evaluating their relationship after their children have left home. Although popular with the public, the final series of Terry and June was shown in 1987, a victim of the new wave of alternative comedy favoured by the BBC.
