Place of origin

Takuji Kubo (born 1948 in Ehime, Japan) is a printmaker whose work melds eastern and western traditions. He studied in London and also spent three years studying Old Master engravings in London museum collections. including the V&A and the British Museum.

Most of his prints are line-engravings. This is highly unusual, as very few artists in the later 20th century have chosen to work in this medium largely because it is so labour-intensive and challenging and requires great concentration and control. Kubo's prints are characterised by their dense intricate detail, as can be seen in this London landscape. Some of his engravings take over six months to complete.

This is one of seven trial proofs, acquired with a preparatory drawing and an impression of the editioned print.
