VELLUM BINDING
with coat of arms
Between 1549 and 1611, for the Epistles
of St Paul in Greek, 1549
Limp vellum binding was an efficient way to protect books,
and lighter than stiff leather binding. This book originally
had ties threaded through the holes on the edge of the
cover. It is stamped with the arms of its first owner, the
English politician Sir Moyle Finch (about 1550-1614).
