Nan Nan Liu works with silver to make vessels and jewellery with poetic designs. Inspired by the nature, especially naturally re-occurring shapes and repetitive patterns such as water ring, tree ring, seashells and rocks, Nan Nan creates objects in organic shapes, often featuring her signature layering design and engraving technique. Although trained entirely in the UK, the artist seeks to convey aesthetics of East Asian cultures through elegant forms and sophisticated craftsmanship.

The inspiration of the Oyster Box series comes from the tree ring, which in the eyes of Nan Nan, testifies to how time creates beauty. To make the layered form, Nan Nan builds up single layers of silver wire in an organic manner, hammers each wire to adjust the shape, then solders them together. Her intricate works are a testament to the intimacy between objects and their makers.
