In the 21st century, technology increasingly influences our perceptions of beauty. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian have popularised selfies and an hour-glass figure through Instagram and other social media platforms. The Meitu mobile phone, made for the Chinese market, comes with a ‘BeautyCam’ app which automatically reshapes the face and lightens the skin. These feature-altering trends are also influencing men: the Spanx brand expanded their body contouring range in 2010 to include a men’s t-shirt that gives a more toned appearance
