Watercolour painting on paper, in a gilded wooden frame. The portrait depicts Alfred Fuller, aged four, wearing a dress in the fashionable style of the period. The dress is blue, with wide robings over puffed sleeves, and the bodice trimmed with braid in a style based on a hussar's uniform. He is bare-headed, and also wears white linen or cotton pantaloons, white hose, and black pumps. He holds a hobby horse (see MISC.523:1-1981) in his left hand and a whip in his right.

This painting depicts a four year old boy, Alfred Fuller, holding a hobby horse which is also in the Museum's collection (see MISC.523:1-1981). Both were given the Museum in 1981 [81/1913]
