Edmund de Waal was inspired by robust, domestic ceramics rather then luxury porducts. His pared-down, simple shapes and pure, pale colours were imitated by other studio potters but inspired retailers too. Perhaps inadvertantly, he led a trend towards minimal chic in the 1990s that reached beyond the craft world into broader public taste.
