The drawings are by Glyn Philpot (1884-1937) and are colour sketches in pencil, watercolour and silver paint for the mural decorations carried out c.1929-30 in the drawing room of Mulberry House, 36, Smith Sq., Westminster. Each of Philpot's original sketches has been overlaid with a cut-out section from a printed copy of the architectural elevation of the room drawn by the architects Darcy Braddell and Humfrey Deane.
Mulberry House was originally built in 1912 to designs by Lutyens, some of whose drawings for the project are in the RIBA Drawings Collection. The house was altered about 1929-30 by Braddell for Lord and Lady Melchett
