This mask would have been worn by the actor playing the part of of Indrajit, son of the evil demon king of Sri Lanka from the Ramakian, the Thai version of the ancient Indian epic, the Ramayana.

Originally based on Indian temple dances the masked dance drama, known as khon in Thailand, became a popular entertainment at the royal court during the Ayutthaya period (1350-1767).
