CHAIR Designed by Richard Meier (American, born 1934) Manufactured by Knoll International Black lacquer finish 1983 This chair is a modern interpretation of a number of bentwood designs by the Austrian architect Josef Hoffmann, originally made around 1900. Viennese design from the turn of the century was particularly imitated during the 1980s both by modernist designers such as Meier and post-Modernists who took a less reverential approach to the design of the past. Meier originally designed this chair for the library of the Guggenheim Museum in New York. Given by Knoll International W.23-1990(1990-2006)
