The architectural practice that designed this table more recently completed the roof of the Great Court at the British Museum, and is well-known for its High-Tech design. Furniture like this can be seen as a demonstration of innovative technological ideas in architecture on a smaller scale.

Chromium-plated steel, glass and metal fittings

THis table was acquired as an example of furniture by an important contemporary British architectural practice and a fine example of Hi-Tech design. Norman Foster and his associates are well known for their buildings which not only use innovative technology but emphasize a technological, or Hi-Tech, look. This table can be seen, not unlike much architects' furniture, as a demonstration of those architectural ideals on a smaller scale.
The table is part of a range of flexible and similarly stylish office furniture. The use of shiny steel and glass not only emphasize the table's complicated , spine-like structure - a nod to Italian designer Carlo Mollino? - but turn it into an object which calls attention to itself in the interior.
