Marjorie Schick, the artist who made this colourful necklace, is interested in sculptural forms. She says 'My work is a sculptural statement which is complete when off the figure... I am intrigued by the idea that the human body is capable of carrying large objects... therefore, I often construct form on a scale which puts the work into the category of body sculpture rather than jewellery.' It is a large piece, but because it is made of papier-mâché, it is very light.

| Physical description | Neckpiece made from painted papier-mâché. The necklace consists of a circular spiral of brightly coloured flame-like forms which curl upwards in different directions like tongues of fire. The spiral is anti-clockwise and in length is just short of two complete circuits. The edges of each flame are outlined in black, with vivid colours on each side. The fronts are decorated with a chevron or leaf-vein pattern, which is filled in with a patchwork of different shades of red, purple, orange, yellow and blue. The reverse is decorated in similar chevron pattern and colours to that on the fronts of the flames. |
