Bibliographic references
  • The following reference is by Joelle Rebeiz from 'Interference Document 11: Armed by Design', p.51: 'While [Cuba's] economy saw a shortage of printing materials such as ink and high quality paper, artists had to get creative with limited resources. In fact, head of design for OSPAAAAL Alfredo Rostgaard credits the embargo as the event that "helped designers most in the quest for our own forms of expression". Within the styles that emerged on OSPAAAL posters as a result of technical and graphic experimentation- from pop art to photographic collage - a few key images anchored the works as a cohesive whole.'
  • The following reference is from Richard Frick, 'The Tricontinental Solidarity Poster', 2011: 'Among the most prominent victims is still today Patrick Lumumba, hero and martyr of the independence movement in Congo, who was drawn into ambush in 1961 under the eyes of the UN troops and murdered in the presence of Belgian sub-officers'.
