A Suffragette and women’s liberationist, Yevonde was an independent and popular portrait artist. As part of her work, she enjoyed experimenting with photographic processes, such as the early Vivex colour process. This double photograph of women wearing saris is solarised, a darkroom technique which creates tones that are partly or wholly reversed.
